STEM Senior Engineering Capstone Project
As a part of the San Marin STEM Program I took a STEM Senior Engineering Class. The main focus of this class was to use the skills we had learned in the last 4 years as part of the stem program, to create and complete a capstone project in a STEM field of our choice. We were presented with the option to be a part of the group that worked on building a Van's RV-12 Light Sport Aircraft kit-plane, and I jumped on the opportunity. The goal of the project it to finish building the plane in the next 2-3 years, take it for a few test-flights, and then sell it to pay for the parts needed to build another plane and do it all again, giving every San Marin STEM student the opportunity to be a part of building a real, full sized, fly-able, plane.
Building a plane involves more than the physical building process. It also involves organization of tasks, regulating the quality of work, creating and managing public relations, finding funding for the project, and more. We split all of the non building work into groups and my group chose the task of focusing on public relations. We're in charge of building and managing a website that will give out more information about our project to the public. In the long term we are focused on managing the website and making sure it is always up to date and professional looking. Our long-term goals are to promote our project more and get more articles written about us locally and hopefully nationally as well. The website we created can be found at: stemmarinplane.weebly.com.
