Music:
I love music. I started out my musical life taking piano lessons for two years in third and fourth grade. I then joined my local church choir in third and fifth grade. My elementary school also had a music program though, so I decided to play the clarinet in the fourth grade band. The next year I decided to join the orchestra instead and play the violin.
The following year was my first year in my new middle school. I decided to join the sixth grade choir and the after school honor choir group that included fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who made it through auditions. In seventh grade I joined the seventh and eighth grade choir and was chosen as one of the seven from my school to go to the CMEA (California Music Educators Association) Honor Choir in 2013. In eighth grade I did not take any music class and at the end of the year I realized that I really enjoyed and missed having a music class.

In my freshman year of high school (2014-2015) I was a part of the concert choir and I tried out and made it into the Women's Jazz Choir. n December our music department put on our semi annual Madrigal Feast. We dressed up in costume and served dinner and many shows to an audience of about 150 people every night for 3 nights. Each show consisted of a comedy show, dancing, and performances by each of the music classes and some small groups of students as well. In May our jazz choir when to New York! We adventured around, shopped, and went sight seeing in the city. We visited the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, and times square just to name a few. We also got to see On the 20th Century staring Kristin Chenoweth! In the spring I was also part of the ensemble, starring as an apple tree, in the Spring Production of the musical, The Wizard of Oz. During the show I helped move various props and set pieces.

In my sophomore year of high school, I was part of the Jazz Choir again and I joined the orchestra for first semester. Our fall musical was Zombie Prom where I doubled as Candy and The Secretary, Sheila. During Zombie Prom I helped the tech crew build and paint sets, focus lighting instruments, and set projection and lighting cues before the show. During the show I helped move various props and set pieces. I was also part of the Show Choir during first semester. At the beginning of the second semester of my sophomore year I took a vocal master class where I focused on learning 4 songs and how to best perform them. I learned "I Got the Sun in the Morning", "My Foolish Heart", "Daddy", and "How do you keep the Music Playing". I then performed "I Got the Sun in the Morning" and "How do you keep the Music Playing" at a local winery and tasting bar. The spring musical during my sophomore year was Once Upon a Mattress where I was a member of the tech and given the position of Assistant Sound Manager/Designer (ASM). During the show I ran the soundboard.
During the summer I was a part of an intense theater company that put out three shows in three weeks called Marin Summer Theater. Our three productions were Little Shop of Horrors, a musical review of Alan Menken's work called A Whole New World, and Little Women: The Musical. I was a sound designer for Little Shop of Horrors and A Whole New World and the assistant sound designer for Little Women: The Musical. I helped with all the behind the scene aspects of each show including, set building and painting, hair and make-up, helping actors with quick changes, moving set pieces and props, and set up and clean up before and after each show.

During my junior year of high school, I was part of the Jazz Choir again. Our fall musical was The Boyfriend where I was double casted as Madame Dubonet. I was the Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) and helped the tech crew build and paint sets, hang, set, and focus lighting instruments, and set lighting cues before the show. I also taught people how to use the sound board and helped set up and clean up sound equipment before and after each show. During the show I helped move various props and set pieces. Halfway through first semester, I joined show choir and rock band. In November I was the sound designer for a local production performed by youth ages 6-14 of Beauty and the Beast Jr. In December our music department put on our semi annual Madrigal Feast. We dressed up in costume and served dinner and many shows to an audience of about 150 people every night for 3 nights. Each show consisted of a comedy show, dancing, and performances by each of the music classes and some small groups of students as well. In the spring I realized that my schedule was a little full and decided to discontinue rock band. Our spring musical was The Music Man where I was double casted at Mrs. Paroo, Marian (the leads) mother. I continued to help with the technical sides of the show helping the tech crew build and paint sets, hang, set, and focus lighting instruments, and set lighting cues before the show. I also taught more people how to use the sound board and helped set up and clean up sound equipment before and after each show.
During the summer I traveled to Cuba with my school's music department. We were there for 6 days and had classes at the International Cuban Music School every morning. In the afternoons we spent time exploring and enjoying the beautiful location, history, and culture. |
