Human Body Organ Systems:
Our class learned about the many different organ systems of the human body through a series of projects.
Presentation:
For this part of the project each group picked an organ system and made a presentation about it to present to the class. My group picked the cardiovascular system.
Working Model Proposal:
For the next part of the project we have to make a working model of our body system that performs 2 tasks. Our project proposal is to make a functioning heart and circulatory system. The goal is to create a filtering pump system that will move the ‘blood’ around in a continuous circle. Then, we use tubes carrying the liquid past a material that will absorb some of the nutrients from the ‘blood’. This will show how the heart pumps the blood, and how the oxygen is distributed throughout the body. The materials we need are a fish filter, plastic tubing, cotton balls/coffee filters, and a funnel. We are going to have a main base that holds the majority of the blood, including the fish filter. The filter would pull up the ‘blood’ and filter it (representing oxygenation). It would then go through a funnel and into the first tube. Throughout the tubing, there would be an absorbing material that would represent the cells and muscles. The science principles we are using are biology (the project will represent a biology idea of the cardiovascular system) and physics (gravity will cause the liquid to flow downward, and force will keep the liquid continuously flowing). We are still not sure about how to keep too much liquid from being absorbed by the cotton balls/coffee filters.
Progress:
We have been working on our projects for about 4-6 weeks now. We have redesigned both parts of our project many times. Here is what it looks like now.
Final Project:
We have now finished our project. Here is our presentation and pictures of the final product.
